Open Position --- Library Director

    The Coventry Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, community focused individual to serve as Library Director.  Coventry is a town of approximately 36,000 residents.  The library system, which is a municipal department, is composed of a main library that shares a building with the Coventry Town Hall and a branch, the Greene Library, located in the rural, western portion of town.  The staff is comprised of six full-time employees and 25 part-time employees.  The Coventry Library is also home to Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, a non-profit adult literacy program that trains tutors to help both ELL and BL students improve their English reading, writing and speaking skills.

     

    Working under the general direction of the Board of Trustees and the Town Manager, the Library Director is responsible for all day-to-day library operations including staffing, creating and managing the budget, building and maintaining library collections, developing policies and procedures, setting short and long term goals, preparing state, town, and Trustee reports, and assisting with patron issues as required.  Customer service is a priority.  The Director is an active member of the Coventry Public Library Foundation and Literacy Volunteers of Kent County.

     

    Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited university and at least five years of progressively responsible library experience, including administrative, budgetary, and supervisory work.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.  Must be able to work with a wide variety of people including volunteers and town officials.  Knowledge of or work in adult literacy is desirable.
