Open Position - Receptionist

    THE TOWN OF COVENTRY

    RECEPTIONIST

     

    An employee in this class is responsible for answering all incoming calls and transferring these calls to the various departments.  Work requires alertness and accuracy in placing, answering and transferring calls as well as taking messages and familiarity with the names and locations of personnel throughout all departments.  The employee must respond promptly and accurately to all calls in a courteous and pleasant manner. 

     

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Answers all incoming calls and makes proper connection to person or office requested;
    • Acts as receptionist in the Town Hall giving routine, non-technical information upon request and referring all other questions to the proper persons;
    • Performs a variety of routine clerical tasks; opens and sorts mail; types a variety of reports, letters or other documents from rough copy, general instructions, or established procedures;
    • Files and retrieves records, reports and other documents;
    • Performs related work as required.


    Skills, knowledge and abilities required:

    • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public;
    • Ability to remember names, location and functions of the offices and personnel within a reasonable period of training;
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

    Education and experience:

    Some experience in general office work with extensive experience in Customer Service.

    Graduation from an approved high school or equivalent.

    Starting wage:  $16.05 per hour

    Hours:  8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
