TOWN OF COVENTRY
Notice is hereby given that the Town Council will be in session at the Town Hall, Council Chambers, 1670 Flat River Road, Coventry, Rhode Island on Monday,
November 22, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. for a Public Hearing on amendments to:
Chapter 127 – Outdoor Fires
Coventry Code, Chapter 127. “Fire Prevention” is proposed to be amended to “Outdoor Fires”, which shall provide for enforcement mechanisms for violations of the Ordinance through cooperation between the authorities of the fire districts and the Coventry Police Department in the Coventry Municipal Court. In addition, the proposed amendment includes definitions of the types of outdoor fires that are permitted and those that are not permitted.
The proposed amendments include definitions of permitted outdoor fires, including campfires, the cooking of food, recreational fires, and those fires that are permitted by a fire district for a firefighting purpose or for the burning of brush and/or leaves by special permit. The proposed amendments authorizing outdoor fires also require a fire attendant be present throughout the fire from ignition until complete extinguishment; the fire attendant must have equipment necessary to extinguish the fire as well.
A complete copy of the proposed Ordinance may be examined and copied at cost in the Office of the Town Clerk, Town Hall, 1670 Flat River Road, Coventry Rhode Island, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A complete copy may also be viewed on the town website at coventryri.org.
If approved, this Ordinance will take effect upon passage. The Ordinance may be amended and voted upon at the conclusion of the public hearing.
